December 2016 CU for SharePoint 2010 product family is available for download

The product group released the December 2016 Cumulative Update for the SharePoint 2010 product family.
For December 2016 CU we have full server packages (also known as Uber packages) for SharePoint 2010.
As this is a common question: Yes, December 2016 CU includes all SharePoint security fixes released with December 2016 PU.
Be aware that CU is a Post-SP2 hotfix. It is required to have SP2 installed before installing the CU.
It is required to have SP2 installed for the base product and all installed language packs to install December 2016 CU for SharePoint 2010.

This CU includes all SharePoint 2010 fixes (including all SharePoint 2010 security fixes) released since SP2. The CU does not include SP2.
The KB articles for December 2016 CU should be available at the following locations in a couple of hours:

  • KB 3118391 – SharePoint Foundation 2010
  • KB 3128036 – SharePoint Server 2010
  • KB 3128033 – Project Server 2010

The Full Server Packages for December 2016 CU are already available through the following links:

After installing the fixes you need to run the SharePoint 2010 Products Configuration Wizard on each machine in the farm. If you prefer to run the command line version psconfig.exe ensure to have a look here for the correct options.
Be aware that the SharePoint Server 2010 CU contains the SharePoint Foundation CU.
That means only one package has to be installed for the SharePoint 2010 product family.

  1. Hi Stefen,
We have installed Dec 2016 CU in our SP2010 environment but the version number is 14.0.7175.5000 instead of 14.0.7177.5000. We didn’t install the November CU by the way but installed only security updates for November. Will that be the cause for this ?
    Thanks,

    1. Thanks for the response Steven. Our’s is SharePoint server 2010 not SharePoint foundation 2010. I saw online this number (14.0.7175.5000) belongs to SharePoint foundation 2010 December 2016 CU. Are you saying that it will be same for SharePoint Server 2010 too ?

      1. Again, please check the article I listed below.
SharePoint Foundation is an integral part of SharePoint server. And it is the only component that influences the version number you listed.
So if you patch any other component than SharePoint foundation the number will not change at all.
        Cheers,
        Stefan

  2. Hi Stefan,
    good day.
We are having problem uur SharePoint 2010 server (SP2) with November 2016 CU patch installed when we are trying to install the December CU 2016 in our servers, it shows “There are no products affected by this package installed on this system”.
the prerequisite in installing Nov 2016 CU and Dec 2016 CU is the same so we believe we did not miss anything right?
do you have insights what we can troubleshoot or check to install the DEC 2016 CU in our SharePoint 2010 server

    1. Hi Al,
      that sounds strange.
I would suggest to run the following script to checkt he patch baseline to verify if there is a component that is on an older baseline than the others:
      https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/stefan_gossner/2015/04/20/powershell-script-to-display-version-info-for-installed-sharepoint-product-and-language-packs/
If that is not the case I would suggest to open a support case with Microsoft to get this analyzed.
      Cheers,
      Stefan

      2. Hi Stefan,
        Good day.
our PS version is lower than 3.0 so the script will not work.
do we have a way to check it manually and do you have a reference of the baseline to determine if we met the prerequisites for December CU 2016?
also, does bypassing will work with out issues? “Package.Bypass.Detection.Check=1”
        thank you

          1. Hi Stefan,
thank you for the instruction. the script work and it shows the following in our :
DisplayName : Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010
            DisplayVersion : 14.0.7015.1000
DisplayName : Microsoftr Office Web Apps
            DisplayVersion : 14.0.7015.1000
with this version, i believe this is for SP2 July 2013 right, so is this considered as an older baseline?
if yes, why did the November CU were successfully installed and there were no issues upon running the Wizard.
should we open now a ticket to MS Support?

          2. Hi Al,
this is SP2 and is the correct baseline.
I would recommend to open a support ticket with Microsoft to analyze what is wrong in your environment.
            Cheers,
            Stefan

  3. Hi Stefen,
We have installed April 2017 CU but it is showing build number 14.0.7175.5000 instead of 14.0.7180.5001 from CA (Configuration Database Version). Is there is anything we are missing?
