November 2014 CU for SharePoint 2010 has been released

The product group released the November 2014 Cumulative Update for the SharePoint 2010 product family.

For November 2014 CU we again have full server packages (also known as Uber packages). Unlike August 2014 CU no other CU is required to fully patch SharePoint.

Be aware that the November Cumulative Update for SharePoint 2010 is a Post-SP2 hotfix. It is required to have SP2 installed before installing the November CU.

This CU includes all SharePoint 2010 fixes released since SP2. The CU does not include SP2.

Attention: this is the first CU which no longer supports SP1! It is required to have SP2 installed for the base product and all installed language packs to install this November 2014 CU for SharePoint 2010.

The KB articles for November CU will be available at the following locations in a couple of days:

  • KB 2889933 - SharePoint Foundation 2010
  • KB 2899478 - SharePoint Server 2010
  • KB 2899479 - Project Server 2010

The Full Server Packages for November 2014 CU are available through the following links:

After installing the fixes you need to run the SharePoint 2010 Products Configuration Wizard on each machine in the farm.

Be aware that the SharePoint Server 2010 CU contains the SharePoint Foundation CU.
That means only one package has to be installed for the SharePoint 2010 product family.

Does this CU include the fix for MS14-073?

  2. A. Radtke says:

Does Servicepacks and CUs for Language packs exist, so that I have to apply These also?

  3. The above listed CU packages include fixes for all language packs.
With Service Packs it is different as you have to install the service pack for each installed language pack separately.

  6. CSwain says:

If MS14-073 is installed by itself, does that also install the November 2014 CU? The build numbers after the MS14-073 suggest that is the case.

  7. Hi CSwain,
it is the other way round: if you install November 2014 CU you also hae MS14-073 installed as MS14-073 is a subset of November 2014 CU.

  8. CSwain says:

Yes, I get that. But if you install just MS14-073 (and not the CU) the resultant build level is 14.0.3137.5000. So what gives?

I found my servers farm is at version SP2 (Vanille) no CU since July 2013. Wich CUs do you recommand to install to be upto date?

    Thank you

  10. Hi Stéphane,

as written in the KB article of your CUs: "Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing the problem described in this article. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend
that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix."

We recommend to install public updates and service packs as soon as possible (means as soon as you have evaluated that there are no issues with your specific solution in a test environment) and CUs only if you are affected by an issue resolved in the CU or
    if advised by Microsoft support.

    Hello Stefan,

We are affected by some problem describe into the December 2013 CU and more problems. What i realy want to know, (after reading you patching demystified), if i use the November 2014 CU do i will be applying all fix or just subset of them? Is there a way to
find we have all PU installed? We are preparing a lab to test does updates before to install it into production, i just want to be sure we are installing.

  12. Stéphane Lamarche says:

Is November 2014 an "Uber" package? if not wich is the last one?

  13. Hi Stephane,

yes the fixes listed above are "Uber" packages – otherwise I would have mentioned it.
And yes: November CU is all you need.

Regarding the PU question: I don’t think there is an easy way to detect this.
But November 2014 CU includes all PUs up to November 2014 PU as well.

  15. John Calvert says:

In the Foundation article KB2889933 it says the following issue is fixed:
•Assume that you upload or download files from a SharePoint Server 2010 folder. If the path of the folder exceeds the supported length, the PathTooLongException error message is displayed in the Unified Logging Service (ULS) log.
This sounds like the correct behaviour but the KB is supposed to list the error. What is the error in this item? Cheers

  16. Hi John,
the problem occurred for paths which were of the supported length due to a wrong calculation.

    Hi Stefan,

I read on this article, it need CU July 2014 too,

Can I skip July or can I jump to Nov ?

  19. Hi Krisna,

the info on Todd Klindt blog is incorrect.
SP1 is not a valid baseline for this CU and Nov 2014 CU does NOT require July CU.
If such requirements would exist I would have outlined them in my blog.

    SP2 is sufficient.

    Thanks Stefan! appreciate it! 🙂

Hi Stephen, very nice article. A comment from ekowc mention about ms14-073 raised a question for me. I am planning to install September CU 2014 on SP 2010 Server, did ms14-073 included in this September CU 2014 or should i well off with November CU 2014.
When MS14-073 issue first raised since i could not found from internet or i am missing something. Thank you

  23. Hi Supermode,

September CU does not include this security fix.
You should install November CU to get the security fix as well.

  24. Hi Kam,
    there is no SP3 available.
If an SP3 will be released in the future has not yet been announced.
