August 2014 CU for SharePoint 2010 has been released (updated August 22nd)

[UPDATE: an additional localized fix for SharePoint for this CU was released on August 22nd: 2760757 – included in the list below]

The product group released the August 2014 Cumulative Update for the SharePoint 2010 product family.

Be aware that the August Cumulative Update for SharePoint 2010 is a Post-SP2 hotfix. It is recommended to have SP2 installed before installing the August CU.

Also be aware that in August no so called "Server" or "Uber" packages have been released instead only fix packages for individual components of SharePoint have been released. That means if your SharePoint system is on an older patch level than July 2014 CU you need to install July 2014 CU before installing the below listed August 2014 CU fixes in order to update your system to the latest patch level.
With other words: It is highly recommended to install SP2 and July 2014 CU before installing August 2014 CU!

This CU includes all SharePoint 2010 fixes released since SP1. The CU does not include SP2.

The KB article for August CU is available at the following locations:

  • SharePoint Foundation 2010: KB 2760757
  • SharePoint Server 2010: KB 2889831 and KB 2883011
  • Be aware that no project server related fixes were released in this CU

The Packages for August 2014 CU are available through the following links:

  • Download SharePoint Foundation 2010 August 2014 CU: 2760757
  • Download SharePoint Server 2010 August 2014 CU: 2889831, 2883011

After installing the fixes you need to run the SharePoint 2010 Products Configuration Wizard on each machine in the farm.

Be aware that for SharePoint Server you have to install the SharePoint Foundation fixes as well!

  8. The KB 2888925 link described by you as a SPF 2010 Cumulative Upgrade goes to a KB article about a Hot Fix.

Have MS dropped the distinction between Hot Fixes and Cumulative Upgrades (there used to be both) or is this link the wrong one?

  9. The same goes for the SPS 2010 "Cumulative Upgrade" KB2889831 which also is a mere Hotfix.

  11. Hello Stefan,

I had a question about applying AND foundation AND server packages because you mention "Be aware that for SharePoint Server you have to install the SharePoint Foundation fixes as well! "

I had this update from Microsoft Support "Per the guidance from the SharePoint Team, the packaging of cumulative updates changed as of August 31, 2011. When applying the Uber (Server) CU, it is no longer recommended to apply the Foundation packages before applying
    the server packages."

    What is your opinion?

    Many thanks for your feedback.
    Best Regards,
    Steven
