October 2013 CU for SharePoint 2010 has been released

The product group released the October 2013 Cumulative Update for the SharePoint 2010 product family.

Be aware that the October Cumulative Update for SharePoint 2010 is a Post-SP1 hotfix. That means that you should ensure that SP1 is installed before the October CU.

The KB articles for October CU are availabe at the following locations:

  • KB 2825824 – SharePoint Foundation 2010
  • KB 2825786 – SharePoint Server 2010
  • KB 2825793 – SharePoint Server 2010 with Project Server
As you see there is a separate Full Server Package for SharePoint Server 2010 with Project Server which simplifies patching of this common installation.

The Full Server Packages for October 2013 CU are available through the following links:

Be aware that the SharePoint Server 2010 CU contains the SharePoint Foundation CU. And the SharePoint Server 2010 with Project Server CU contains Project Server CU, SharePoint Server CU and SharePoint Foundation CU.
That means only one package has to be installed for the SharePoint 2010 product family.

    Hi Stefan ,

On installing this above CU, we are facing issue. " The expected version of the product was not found  in the system". If i try using Bypassing the detection. It  throws " Installation failed on this system".

Existing Configuration is SP1 + Dec CU 2011

I tried KB 2825793 – SharePoint Server 2010 with Project Server. Can you please assist me on this.

  4. Stefan Goßner says:

    Hi Ponnarasu,

common reasons for this error are:

    – Only SPF SP1 is installed but not SharePoint Server SP1

    – SP1 for a language pack is missing

    – SP1 for a language pack for SPF has been installed but not for the language pack of SharePoint Server.

Please check that SP1 has been installed for all components.

If the Problem still occurs I would recommend to open a Support case.

    Cheers,

    Stefan

    I have Few Questions

1)Earlier in MOSS we use to Install WSS Binaries and then MOSS Binaries but I have heard now that in SharePoint 2010 we don’t have to first Install SharePoint Foundation first and then SharePoint Server 2010 , now they are bundled in one Package . Is this Correct ….? Please Confirm

    2) We have 3 Language Packs Spanish, Portugese and chinese but i am not seeing english so We have to Install SP2( Foundation + SharePoint 2010 and SP2 for all languages ( Foundation + server 2010) . Is this Correct ..Please confirm

    3) We have Office Web Apps Installed so duringat the Time of Software upgrade of SP2, We have to install Office Web apps Service Pack 2 also ??

    4) What should be the order of installation

-Language Pack– Binaries- Office Web apps —> Then Psconfig …?? Am i rite

Thanks in Advance for answering my Queries

    Regards

    Neeraj

    1) confirmed

    2) you have to install SP2 in english for SP2010 and SP2 for all language packs:

    3) correct

    4) Installation sequence does not matter but PSCONFIG has to be run as last step

We have a strange issue after installing October 2013 CU in our test farms (3 different ones). The "Edit My Profile" in all 3 My Sites is now broken. The issue (found in the ULS logs) is that suddenly the My Sites App Pool account is attempting to login to the Search Admin database and it does not have rights there. Manually adding it corrects the problem. Our Production farms are on SP2 Aug CU and they are fine, with no rights for the app pool account to the Search database. Any ideas what changed this?

  11. Stefan Goßner says:

I would recommend to evaluate December CU and of the issue still occurs to open a support case to get this analyzed.

  12. Andy Talbot says:

Hey Stefan, we're seeing the same issue ("Edit My Profile" in all 3 My Sites is now broken") still present in the Dec CU

  13. Stefan Goßner says:

    Hi Andy,

then please open a support case for this.

    Cheers,
    Stefan

  14. Hans Paulini says:

    Hi,
we are thinking about if it makes sense only to install CU Oct 2013 without installing SP2, assuming all Updates of SP2 are included in CU Oct 2013.

    Is this the case?

    Regards Hans

  15. Stefan Goßner says:

    Hi Hans,

a service pack not only installs fixes – it also defines a baseline for future fixes.
If SP2 is not installed you will come to a point where future CUs will not be installable because the required baseline does not exist on the system.

    Cheers,
    Stefan

  16. Hans Paulini says:

    Thanks, then we install both..

  17. Hans Paulini says:

One last question about this issue: Is it possible to Slipstream the Service Pack 2 and CU Oct 2013 to get it installed in one turn? I only found articles about slipstream the installation package with some cu. But nothing without the installation package.

    Hello Stefan,
We have a current version of the farm 14.0.7108.5000, with SP1 + Oct 2013 CU. And we now have the requirement to upgrade the farm to SP2. Please let us know if there will be any challenges if we upgrade the farm to SP2, on top of Oct 2013 CU? I understand we
should have done SP2 and then Oct 2013, but as its a miss, can we do SP2 now ? Do you see any challengesissues doing this. Let me know your thoughts.

  20. Stefan Goßner says:

Hi Pradeep, that should work fine. Just ensure to install SP2 for the core product and for each installed language pack.
