October 2011 CU for SharePoint 2010 has been released

The product group released the delayed October 2011 Cumulative Update for the SharePoint 2010 product family.

Be aware that the October Cumulative Update for SharePoint 2010 is a Post-SP1 hotfix. That means that you should ensure that SP1 is installed before the October CU.

The KB articles for October CU (2007 and 2010) can be found at the following locations:

  • KB 2596541 - WSS 3.0
  • KB 2596540 - MOSS 2007
  • KB 2596508 - SharePoint Foundation 2010
  • KB 2596505 - SharePoint Server 2010
  • KB 2596506 - SharePoint Server 2010 with Project Server
As you see there is a separate Full Server Package for SharePoint Server 2010 with Project Server which simplifies patching of this common installation.

The Full Server Packages for October 2011 CU are available through the following links:

Be aware that the SharePoint Server 2010 CU contains the SharePoint Foundation CU. And the SharePoint Server 2010 with Project Server CU contains Project Server CU, SharePoint Server CU and SharePoint Foundation CU.
That means only one package has to be installed for the SharePoint 2010 product family.

  1. Will there be a fix for user's uploading their own profile pictures/getting profile pictures that have been imported from AD soon?  I was told that it would be a major build (6113) but the PFE didn't have any more information than that.

  2. Tim says:

Any word on the profile pic issue? Other than Trevor's blog post I have not seen anything documenting this issue.

For us (we are in the middle of a big profile push), this was a real kick in the teeth…

On the bright side, I now have something to add to my test routine. :-

  3. Hi Trevor, Hi Tim,

I'm not sure about which issue you are talking.

Do you have an SR number?

  4. Stefan, I don't as I was working on another case with a Tier-II tech in Fargo and as an aside just asked about this particular issue.  He mentioned that he was working on a case that had a similar/same issue.

The issue we're talking about here is when a user attempts to upload their own photo to their MySite, they get the error on the Upload Picture dialog of "Your personal site does not contain a picture library named 'Pictures'".  In the scenario I tested, MySites was given its own Web App at http://mysites.

  5. Tim says:

Stefan, my situation is identical to what Trevor describes. The MySite host has its own Web App at the root (e.g. http://my) and users receive the error "Your personal site does not contain a picture library named 'Pictures'" when attempting to upload a pic. I can open a case if that would be helpful. Thank you for your responsiveness!

  6. I had a short look into the list of hotfixes in work but I did not find anything related to the symptoms described. I would recommend to open a support case to follow up on this.

  7. Steve says:

Hi Stefan, I also have the same issue as Tim and Trevor.  Any news?

  8. Mark says:

I have the same "Your personal site does not contain a picture library named 'Pictures'" after a clean single server farm build. I urgently need a fix for this. Does anyone have a solution yet?

  9. Hi Mark, Hi Steve,

please open a support case for this.

  10. SDA says:

I have the same pb than Mark.

    any news about MS?

a corrective wil be delivered in the december cumulative???

  11. Here is my last and final statement on this: if you need a fix for an issue you have to open a support case with Microsoft.

  12. cavalier_102@hotmail.com says:

I also get this same message when mySite is at http://someRootURL.  But…

In my VM environment I created the mySite as a subsite (using managed paths), for example: http://intranet/mySite.  The picture feature worked great in this sense… but may not be a practical solution for all.  I know… create a case with MS.
