Power Map Now Generally Available as a Native Excel Capability

by C&E BloggerHot on the heels of the release of Power BI for Office 365 earlier this month, today Microsoft announced that Power Map is now native to Excel for Office 365 ProPlus customers. With Power Map, users can create 3D visualizations for mapping, exploring and interacting with geographical and temporal data in the familiar interface of Excel. Power Map builds on other BI functionalities in Excel such as Power Query and Power Pivot to give people a powerful new way to work with data in the familiar interface of Excel.

Going forward, Power Map will be automatically updated to include the newest features, including new types of data visualizations, 3D analysis and storytelling capabilities. Power Map also now supports all 40 languages that Office supports with this general availability.

Microsoft customers are already using Power Map to find insights on their data. For example, Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) uses Power Map to display building energy usage in a map-based format. For more about CMU’s BI solution, check out the case study.
