What’s New in R2 Blog Series: IaaS Innovations
As part of the ongoing series on “What’s New in R2,” Corporate Vice President Brad Anderson’s two-part blog discusses how Windows Server 2012 and System Center 2012 provide a rich IaaS solution. We’re seeing a significant move to the service provider model where organizations are providing Infrastructure-as-a-Service for their internal business units. With this, Service Providers were an investment focus for these releases and the innovation driven enables them to deliver VMs at 50% of the cost of competitors . To deliver this value, Microsoft focused on the following aspects:

  • Continuing to drive innovation into the infrastructure itself to ensure network, compute, and storage are not only low-cost, but also easy to operate through rich integration with System Center.
  • Providing a delightful experience for the Service Provider and tenant administrators using IaaS.

The two work hand-in-hand: The right infrastructure enables key customer-facing scenarios, and the focus on the experience ensures that customers can get the most out of their infrastructure investments.
