Microsoft Named a Leader in Gartner’s 2013 Magic Quadrant for x86 Server Virtualization Infrastructure

Gartner positioned Microsoft in the Leaders' Quadrant in the June 2013 Magic Quadrant for x86 Server Virtualization Infrastructure. Read Brad Anderson’s new post on the recognition from Gartner and what it means for Windows Server 2012, System Center 2012, and Hyper-V as powerful options for enterprise-scale virtualization.

SAP on Hyper-V: World Record Benchmark

Through close collaboration between SAP, HP and Microsoft, a new world record for a three-tier SAP Sales and Distribution (SD) standard application benchmark, running on a 2-processor physical server, has been achieved and certified by SAP. Last month, Brad Anderson, Corporate Vice President of the Server and Tools Business highlighted how Windows Server 2012, Hyper-V, and System Center 2012 SP1, provide the most scalable, reliable, and feature-rich platform to run key, tier-1 Microsoft workloads, such as SQL Server, SharePoint and Exchange. This new SAP benchmark record demonstrates that customers can also virtualize non-Microsoft tier-1, mission critical applications with the same confidence they have when virtualizing Microsoft workloads.

The SAP application benchmark resulted in 42,400 SAP SD benchmark users, 231,580 SAPS, and a response time of 0.99 seconds, showcasing phenomenal performance on just 2 physical sockets.  The result of the benchmark is also 30% higher than a previous 2-socket, virtualized configuration running on VMware vSphere 5.0.
