FreeBSD support for Windows Server Hyper-V available today

Today, Microsoft and partners NetApp and Citrix announced the availability of FreeBSD support for Windows Server 2008 R2 Hyper-V. This announcement extends Microsoft’s commitment to supporting multiple platforms with its virtualization and private cloud solutions, allowing more organizations to take advantage of server consolidation cost-savings and progress towards private, public and hybrid cloud computing.

Microsoft and PPTV deliver cloud-based online TV service

Microsoft and PPTV, China's leading Internet TV service provider, have signed an agreement to launch PPTV Asia TV Networks (ATN) on Windows Azure. PPTV will adopt Windows Azure as the core infrastructure platform for PPTV ATN, providing a cloud-based Internet TV solution to satisfy the growing global Internet TV demand. The company chose Windows Azure because of its reliability, scalability and global availability.

This is Microsoft's first cloud-based collaboration with a local Chinese new media company. See the press release for more information.

Thai law enforcement agency cuts investigation time from years to weeks, optimizes processes with Microsoft big data solution

Thailand’s Department of Special Investigation (DSI), a law enforcement agency established under the country’s Ministry of Justice, recently turned to a Microsoft big data solution in order to manage the large amount of data required to support investigations of serious criminal activity. After implementing the solution, DSI was able to cut investigation time in a test case from 2 years to 15 days, saving the agency an enormous amount of resources. Additionally, the new solution has provided investigators with the information they need to be proactive about crimes, making for a more efficient use of resources.
