WPC 2012 - New Ways Partners Can Benefit in the Era of the Cloud OS

Satya Nadella, president of the Server and Tools Division (STB) at Microsoft, took the stage this morning on Day 2 of the Worldwide Partner Conference (WPC) in Toronto, Canada. Speaking to more than 16,000 attendees, he discussed new ways that partners can benefit in the era of the cloud OS, which Takeshi Numoto, corporate vice president of STB further detailed in a blog post today. 

News highlights include:

  • A community technology preview (CTP) of new technologies for Windows Server and System Center that enable hosting service providers to deliver capabilities consistent with services running in Windows Azure. With the new CTP, hosting service providers can offer customers turnkey cloud services, including high-scale websites and virtual machine hosting with an extensible self-service portal experience.
    • Go Daddy , one of the largest global Web hosters, is piloting these new capabilities to deliver new cloud services for customers with Windows Server and System Center 2012.
  • The “Switch to Hyper-V” Program provides partners with new guidance, training and software tools, including the Virtual Machine Migration Toolkit to help customers more easily migrate VMware virtual machine infrastructure to Windows Server Hyper-V and System Center.
    • Using tools announced in this program, Microsoft Gold Partner Fyrsoft helped Pella Corporation migrate their VMware infrastructure – nearly 700 VMware virtual machines – to a Microsoft private cloud. As a result, Pella has reduced IT costs by six figures and improved efficiency.
