Windows Azure AppFabric June CTP is Announced

As announced at TechEd North America 2011, this week we released the Windows Azure AppFabric June CTP, which includes capabilities that make it easy for developers to build, deploy, manage and monitor multi-tier applications across web, business logic and database tiers as a single logical entity on the Windows Azure Platform. This release consists of the AppFabric Developer Tools, AppFabric Application Manager, the Composition Model and support for running Custom Code, Windows Communication Foundation (WCF) and Windows Workflow Foundation (WF).

Microsoft Camp convenes for PHP developers migrating to SQL Server/SQL Azure

Microsoft is hosting a SQL Server JumpIn! Developers' Camp June 20-23, 2011, where top developers are exploring migration of applications to SQL Server.  Using the PDO driver for SQL Server and SQL Azure, developers can migrate applications more quickly and cost effectively, expanding opportunity through increased interoperability with one of the market’s most widely used databases. 

 

Developers from Agavi, AuraPHP, CakePHP, FRAPI, MediaWiki, OpenVBX/Twilio, PEAR, Symfony, Voce Communications/WordPress, Web2Project and Zend Framework are attending.  The camp is taking place in Kirkland, WA, featuring a keynote by Ted Kummert, Sr. VP of the Business Platform Division followed by technical sessions with Microsoft SQL Server and PHP experts.

 

Hitachi Builds New Data Center Solution on Hyper-V Cloud

Tuesday, June 14, Hitachi announced several new converged data center solutions aimed at helping customers automate, accelerate and simplify private cloud deployments. The offerings include Hitachi solutions built on Microsoft Hyper-V Cloud Fast Track (making Hitachi the eighth partner to commit to the Hyper-V Cloud Fast Track program), and Hitachi Converged Platform for Microsoft Exchange 2010 (the first in a portfolio of pre-tested application-specific converged solutions). Ultimately, as Microsoft’s Mike Schutz, senior director, Windows Server and Virtualization Product Management points out, “Technologies such as the offerings Hitachi announced that build on Microsoft System Center, Hyper-V and Exchange provide a solid starting point for customers who need some level of customization and also want to reduce risk and speed deployment."
