Microsoft and Intel announce Silverlight for Moblin

Furthering Microsoft’s commitment to deliver interactive, high quality user experiences with Silverlight to not only your computer, but a range of devices and platforms, Microsoft and Intel announced this morning their plans to work together to bring support for Silverlight 3 to Intel’s Atom-based Mobile Internet Devices (MID). The agreement, announced at the Intel Developer Forum in San Francisco, will enable OEMs to port Silverlight 3 to these Atom-based MIDs which will run Windows 7 and Moblin, an open source, Linux-based operating system targeted at Atom-based devices.

Now consumers will be able enjoy the highest quality application and video experiences they’ve come to expect from Silverlight on the Web, on a variety of platforms and Atom-based devices. Not only does this help developers reach a broader audience with their Silverlight applications, it also demonstrates Microsoft’s continued commitment to Silverlight’s cross-platform, cross-browser, and cross-device promise.
