KB915756 - Authorization Manager-enabled applications may not work after you install Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 (undergoing a change for Operations Manager)

The KB article https://support.microsoft.com/kb/915786/en-us which applies to Windows Server 2003 SP1 will undergo a slight update shortly for Operations Manager 2007.  A few people have hit the issue I documented here https://support.microsoft.com/kb/937292/en-us (Error message when you run the Operations Manager Prerequisite Viewer for the Server component: "Microsoft.interop.security.azroles.dll is not registered in the global assembly cache"). The prereq viewer refers the installing user to KB915756 which then discusses the potential Windows Server 2003 SP1 issue with assembly registration.

The problem can still potentially affect Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2 (not just SP1). Certain SKU's can still be affected.  Therefore KB915756 has been ammended to add the following to the More Information section together with a link to the System Center Operations Manager specific article:

To resolve this problem in Windows Server 2003 with Service Pack 2, re-register the primary interoperability assembly in the global assembly cache.
To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start, click Run, type cmd , and then click OK.
  2. At the command prompt, type the following commands. Press ENTER after you type each command.
    • cd %windir%\Microsoft.NET\AuthMan\1.2
    • azrlreg register Microsoft.interop.security.azroles.dll

Note This problem may occur when you run the System Center Operations Manager 2007 installation Prerequisite check.
