Every business owner has more important issues to tackle than managing updates for their computer. Yet a computer that doesn’t have the latest security software and device drivers can be an unnecessary source of lost time.
So why not let Windows manage updates for you? It’s a feature that is already included in most versions of Windows.
To better understand the feature, the Microsoft small business support center has an easy-to-use guided walk through to help take you through the simple steps to use Windows Update
Windows Update is especially useful to help you make sure your computer has the latest drivers.
A driver is software that allows your computer to communicate with hardware or devices. Without updated drivers, the hardware you connect (for example, sound or video, printers and scanners) will not work properly.
In most cases, driver software comes with Windows or can be found by going to Windows Update in and checking for updates. If Windows doesn't have the driver you need, you can find it on the disc that came with the hardware or device you
want to use, or on the manufacturer's website.
The guided walk through covers the following issues:
- Use Windows Update to update Windows and other Microsoft programs
- Turn on Automatic Updating
- Configure Windows Update settings
- Update software from another software manufacturer
- Install new hardware
- Update a driver for hardware that isn't working correctly
