Friday Support: Using System Recover and Repair

Using System Recover and Repair

We’ve all been there.

That moment when your PC suddenly decides it just doesn’t want to play ball. Panic ensues as you realise that Windows won’t start or it’s telling you to start in Safe Mode, all of your documents and emails are locked inside and you can’t get to them.

As a lot of small businesses are unlikely to have an IT team they can turn to in times of crisis, it’s good to know what tools are available within Windows to enable you to deal with these scenarios.

If your system will only start in safe mode, System Restore allows you to roll back your system to a previous state when it was functioning correctly.

Startup Repair is designed to start automatically if Windows detects a startup problem but if it doesn’t, you can access the System Recover Options menu on the computer’s hard disk.

Playing about with your system files and configuration can seem a bit daunting, thankfully this isn’t as complicated as sounds and the Support for Small Business site has a great simple guide which provides exactly the detail you need to complete this task or to walk you through your specific problem and help you to decide whether you need to restore, repair or recover Windows.

Hopefully you won’t need this but just in case you do, you know where to get help.
