Mad about Microsoft: brand is UK favourite

By Matt Brady

Microsoft has been voted number 1 brand by UK consumers for the second year running in an annual survey by Superbrands.  Google were third, behind Coca-Cola.  Media and marketing experts decided differently, however - Google was their favourite brand, followed by Apple and then iPod, all "cool" brands of the moment (I'm guessing that "Apple iPod" is a pretty powerful combination then).

In terms of men versus women, both sexes named Microsoft as their favourite brand  81.95% of men surveyed and 75.75% of female respondents placed it at the top). Microsoft was also favoured among young people: 18-24 year olds voted it second behind Coca-Cola.

Stephen Cheliotis, Chairman of Superbrands Council UK, said:

The UK public clearly love Microsoft which performs strongly among all consumer groups, although relative newcomer Google is becoming a major challenger for that elusive number one slot

This is looking like a Federer-Nadal style rivalry.  I'm eagerly looking forward to next year's league table.
