Exchange Online

Enabling Modern Auth for Managed Tenants We're constantly improving the security of Office 365 products and services. Modern Authentication is one of the best ways of ensuring that your clients can take advantage of authentication features like multi-factor authentication (MFA) and third-party SAML identity providers. All new Office 365 tenants created on or after August 1, 2017 have Modern Authentication enabled by default in Exchange Online for all clients. We're making a change so that Modern Authentication will be enabled for the Windows Outlook client and Skype for Business client in all managed (non-federated) tenants that were created before to August 1, 2017. Those tenants already have Modern Authentication enabled for Outlook mobile, Outlook for Mac and Outlook on the Web, so there are no changes to any of those clients.

Exchange Online

Outlook calendar increase transport limit for meeting updates We previously did work to prevent meetings sent to hundreds of users from hitting the maximum recipients limit of 500 in Office 365. As a result, we tracked the first 500 responses (tracking a response involves adding the responder to the recipients list). Additional responses after 500 were ignored in order to ensure that there were no more than 500 recipients of the meeting. With this release, we're increasing the maximum recipients limit in Office 365 to 2,000 only for these types of meetings, so we'll be able to track up to 2,000 individual responses to the meeting.

Microsoft To-Do: March Lookback - Flagged email, New Suggestions and more

Spring is in the air—which means we've been hard at work giving our app a little behind-the-scenes spring clean. It wasn't all behind the scenes, though: we had some exciting updates this month, including our favorite new update—the ability to see your flagged email in To-Do. Also added in March were the ability to drag and drop files in Windows, and add a home screen shortcut on Android. Here's a run-down of everything we launched in March.

Microsoft Hybrid Agent Preview Update

Introduction to Public Folder Hierarchy Sync

The purpose of this article is to provide high level overview of hierarchy synchronization process in public folders and provide some troubleshooting steps to monitor and troubleshoot hierarchy related issues. The information presented here applies to public folder deployment in Exchange on-premises as well as Exchange Online, with any differences called out. In simple terms, the public folder hierarchy is the skeleton or logical structure in which the permissions and other properties of public folders are arranged. The hierarchy makes it possible for clients to determine which PF mailbox stores the actual content of the public folder. The hierarchy is synchronized across all public folder mailboxes, to ensure a single PF mailbox is not burdened with serving the hierarchy to all clients. Frequent synchronization of the hierarchy is critical to ensure end users always get an up to date view of the hierarchy.

Announcing 3D Content Guidelines for Office 365

Since 3D was first introduced in Office, we've heard resounding feedback from the community that better guidance was needed to help users acquire, build and convert 3D content for use in Office. Whether you are an Office user looking to acquire 3D assets for your documents, or a 3D professional creating content for your clients, we are pleased to announce that the 3D Content Guidelines for Microsoft are now publicly available, and have been developed to help users be more successful with 3D in Office.

ZeroConfigExchange - Automating the Creation of an Outlook Profile for Exchange Accounts

ZeroConfigExchange (ZCE) can be used to create new profiles for users with minimal user interaction. That is, the user does not have to enter any configuration data... only data that every user should already know (account name and/or password). ZCE is a registry setting that tells Outlook to create a new profile using the SMTP address from Active Directory and to then leverage Autodiscover. It's important to note that there are no supported tools for modifying an Exchange Online account. Again, ZCE is used as a way to automatically configure an Outlook profile for one or many users with Exchange Online or Exchange on-premises accounts. However, the underlying mechanism used to gather configuration data for your connection to Exchange is Autodiscover.

Skype for Business desktop now available as web download app on Mac

As promised, we have rolled out the change to use Skype for Business desktop app on Mac as our web-downloadable meetings client instead of Skype Meetings App (SMA)! The change applies to meetings that are hosted on Skype for Business Online or on Skype for Business Server 2015 that is configured to use the Microsoft Content Delivery Network (CDN). (If your server is not configured to use the online CDN, there is no change to your experience.) The desktop app brings many advantages over SMA: Screen sharing, audio, and video are significantly more reliable. The meeting experience is built around a larger and more immersive display of video and shared content. Screen sharing from the Mac uses Video-based Screen Sharing (VbSS), which is faster and more reliable than Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) used by SMA. The app has also been optimized to work well with macOS 10.14 (Mojave), including Dark Mode.
