New capabilities in Microsoft 365 empower healthcare professionals

Medical care has shifted to team-based care, increased medical specialization, a growing volume of digital patient data, and stringent regulations for patient privacy. Healthcare providers strive to deliver the best possible care to patients, but the tools they use for coordinating patient care are often fragmented and impede the collaborative workflows required in a complex care environment. To address these challenges, today we are announcing new capabilities in Microsoft Teams that empower care teams and enable healthcare organizations to securely collaborate and communicate. Built on the secure, compliant Microsoft 365 cloud, Teams gives all healthcare workers a familiar way to communicate in real-time, coordinate patient care, and improve operational efficiencies. New advanced messaging features include priority notifications for urgent messages and message delegation to securely manage urgent patient care. In addition, new platform enhancements provide the ability to integrate electronic health records for care coordination and make Teams an even more powerful hub for health team collaboration.

Yammer: The super power of communities at work

For over 10 years we have seen Yammer helping organizations everywhere connect and engage employees in lots of different ways, but the one consistent thing we've see is the ability Yammer has to create connections that form communities. Communities that host C-suite-to-employee conversations or HR voice-of-the-employee channels to communities of interest that drive change through inclusion and diversity to communities of practice that improve knowledge management. The power and impact of communities in the workplace is undeniable. Understanding and harnessing communities can quickly lead to impact. Yammer's core focus is to inform and engage, breaking down silos through multi-way conversations and non-invasive productivity. There is power in community. Some might even call it Yammer's super power. It can impact the bottom line through more engaged employees. The social foundation we provide our employees can be a platform that spans the organization and breaks down communication silos. We can create an inclusive and productive environment centered around our people and the value they bring. | Related: Learn how to create sentiment analysis for Yammer conversations with no custom code

New white paper – "Transforming business process with Microsoft 365"

Microsoft 365 provides innovative capabilities to empower anyone - developers, power users, and information workers - to craft business applications tailored to real-world needs. SharePoint lists provide foundational data storage across the suite. PowerApps and Microsoft Flow bring custom forms and workflow into business applications. And Microsoft Forms and Power BI extend business apps with data gathering and analytics. That's a lot of power. If you're a problem solver, you're in the right place. Our new white paper "Transforming Business Process with Microsoft 365" helps you understand these capabilities. You'll learn about why business apps matter. We review the core capabilities of each tool – SharePoint lists, PowerApps, Flow, Forms, and Power BI. Finally, we complete the journey by presenting three scenarios to guide your implementation: (1) Event organizer, (2) Travel approval, and (3) Employee onboarding. Each solution is accompanied by templates you can use immediately.

The Microsoft Hybrid Agent Public Preview

We are pleased to announce the Microsoft Hybrid Agent for Exchange Server is now available for preview! First announced at Ignite 2018, this feature will install an agent, built on the same technology as Azure Application Proxy, which will publish the Exchange on-premises environment to Exchange Online to support free/busy and mailbox migrations without many of the challenges customers previously faced with external DNS, publishing of EWS and inbound connections ports having to be opened. From today, when running the Hybrid Configuration Wizard, you are presented with a new option for establishing hybrid; "Modern Hybrid". Modern Hybrid is offered for both Minimal and Full Hybrid Configurations. This new option will only be presented if you have never run the Hybrid Configuration Wizard. If you have successfully established Hybrid in either Minimal or Full config before this release, this new option will not be available.

Retiring Unified Messaging in Exchange Online

Microsoft is retiring Unified Messaging (UM) in Exchange Online and replacing it with Cloud Voicemail and Auto Attendant services. This impacts voicemail processing and Auto Attendant in Exchange Online for all customers using these workloads. The following servers connecting to Exchange UM Online will be transitioned by Microsoft to Cloud Voicemail on or before February 2020: Lync Server 2013 and Skype for Business Server 2015. Please note this announcement refers to Unified Messaging which is the processing of voicemails and Auto Attendant in Exchange Online. Storage of voicemails will continue to be supported in Exchange Online and Exchange on-premises Servers. Customers using the above-mentioned servers to connect to Exchange UM Online will be transitioned to Cloud Voicemail by Microsoft. The transition timing will vary depending upon how your company has utilized the UM features. Over the course of this calendar year, we will selectively notify customers via the Office 365 Message Center of their coming transition. The first group of customers will be notified in February 2019 and then can expect to be transitioned in March 2019. The experience for each customer will be transparent – Microsoft will switch your users over to Cloud Voicemail and perform the necessary validation and testing. Customers who have received a transition notification and would like to request postponement can do so by submitting a request via the support tool in the Office 365 Admin Portal. Please remember that final retirement date is February 2020. Lync 2010 Servers connected to Exchange Online Unified Messaging will not be transitioned or supported with Cloud Voicemail. Customers using this topology must upgrade to Skype for Business Server prior to February 2020 for continued voicemail support via Cloud Voicemail.

Microsoft Authenticator app—now sends security notifications

We're excited to share that we will help you have more confidence and visibility into your personal Microsoft account activities by giving you security notifications delivered in the Microsoft Authenticator app. When important events — such as a password change — happen on your personal Microsoft account, Microsoft Authenticator will send you a notification. You can then view your account activity and take actions to protect your account if needed. The goal of these notifications is to increase awareness and help you react quickly if there is unexpected activity. You'll automatically start receiving alerts when we detect sensitive or unusual actions on your account, such as changing your password, adding a new phone number or email addresses, or signing in from a new device or unusual location. These notifications give you a powerful tool to understand and keep control of your account.

Announcing the public preview for SAML token encryption support

We are announcing the public preview for support of SAML token encryption in Azure Active Directory (Azure AD). Some organizations need encryption to meet internal security standards or compliance requirements. With this feature, you will be able to encrypt the SAML token that Azure AD sends to the application after a successful authentication. Tokens are always passed between Azure AD, the client browser, and the application they are destined for using encrypted transport links (HTTPS/TLS), so token contents are never on the wire in the clear regardless of whether token encryption is configured or not. Now that Azure AD support SAML token encryption, you can go ahead and move applications requiring this capability from AD FS to work directly with Azure AD.
