Announcing New OneDrive for Business feature: Files Restore

Keeping your files safe and secure is our top priority. With 100+ data centers and Microsoft's global network edge—combined with compliance standards, we offer customers trusted enterprise-grade compliance and security. Additionally, we empower administrators to safeguard organizational data using capabilities such as Data Loss Prevention (DLP), eDiscovery, service level encryption with customer-owned keys (currently in preview), and data retention controls with consistent management across Office 365. Even with this level of sophistication, there are occasions where your files could be compromised due to accidental end-user deletion, file corruption, or malware infection. Until now the recovery process from such an event could take time and potentially result in data loss. That's why we are excited to announce Files Restore for our OneDrive for Business customers. Files Restore is a complete self-service recovery solution that allows administrators and end users to restore files from any point in time during the last 30 days. If a user suspects their files have been compromised, they can investigate file changes and allow content owners to go back in time to any second in the last 30 days. Now your users and your administrators can rewind changes using activity data to find the exact moment to revert to. | Related: SharePoint and OneDrive Management, Migration, and Security Updates

Now available: Move conversations in Yammer!

Yammer helps organizations drive open conversations. Oftentimes, a conversation in one group can easily expand to involve more people and topics than originally planned. For example, a conversation that started between marketers may eventually become more relevant to people in support. Other times, a question that's posted in one group, may be better answered by experts in another community. For example, questions posted in All Company can be directed towards groups relevant to the topic of the question. We are happy to announce that you can now move conversations between groups in Yammer! We've listened to your suggestions and feedback, and we're very excited to share this new capability, which is available today. You can now move conversations in Yammer to other groups that are more relevant to the topic you're discussing. We know that a major part of managing any community is making sure people can see the conversations that matter to them and getting questions answered quickly, no matter which Yammer group you're in.

Exchange Server TLS guidance, part 1: Getting Ready for TLS 1.2

As the realm of security in technology continues to evolve over time, every so often we say hello to newer and more competent versions of technologies while saying goodbye to their older siblings. By the time you are reading this article you may have learned Office 365 intends to stop accepting inbound network connections if they are using TLS protocol versions prior to TLS 1.2, and started to wonder how this may affect your on-premises deployments of Exchange Server. For clarity, this does not mean your on-premises deployments must disable TLS 1.0/1.1 by the time Office 365's change takes place. It only means TLS 1.2 must be enabled and used when communicating with Office 365. In part 1 of this series we will provide you with the information required to prepare your environments for using TLS 1.2, as well as, what our plans are during the next few weeks.

Office 365 Education delivers the next wave of innovation for inclusive and collaborative learning

Our ongoing commitment to create more inclusive and collaborative learning environments continues with the arrival of a number of powerful updates to Office 365 Education. Building on the momentum of OneNote Class Notebook, which has surpassed more than 15 million notebooks created since the beginning of this school year, and the launch of Microsoft Teams for Education, we have worked with students, teachers, and research institutes to ensure that Office 365 continues to deliver the best learning outcomes. Updates to Office 365 Education include enabling students to write a paper using only their voice, thanks to Dictation in Office, the latest feature to join Microsoft Learning Tools, as well as improved access to assignments and class collaboration with the Microsoft Teams iPhone and Android apps. What's more, we are delivering on the number one most requested feature from teachers, page locking in OneNote Class Notebook—allowing teachers to provide students with read-only access—and we will further help teachers save time through assignment and grade integrations with leading Learning Management Systems (LMS) and Student Information Systems (SIS), including Capita SIMS in the U.K. Office 365 Education gives teachers and students the power to unlock limitless learning. And best of all, it's free for teachers and students.

New administrator setting to manage external sharing of Microsoft Forms

We are pleased to introduce better administrator control over Microsoft Forms external and internal sharing. Administrators can now turn off or turn on the ability to send a form, share a form for collaboration, share a form as a template, or share form results with users outside of your organization. To make changes to these settings in the Office 365 Admin center, go to Settings > Services & add-ins > Microsoft Forms. After a setting is turned off, only people in your organization will have access to that option, and only when they sign in. This feature is under rolling out to all Office365 commercial tenant users soon by February 2018.

Office 365 Security: Defending Against Illicit Consent Grants

Office 365 Security has been tracking an emergent threat to customer data in the Office 365 cloud over the last year. This blog post is intended to help IT Administrators of Office 365 organizations detect, monitor, and remediate this threat. In its simplest form, the attack consists of an adversary creating an Azure registered application which requests access to customer data (contact information, email, documents, etc.), and then tricking an end user into granting that application consent to access their data through a phishing attack, or by injecting illicit code into a trusted website. Once the illicit application has been granted consent, it functionally has account-level access to data but without needing an actual account in the organization. Normal remediation steps like resetting passwords for breached accounts or requiring MFA on accounts is not effective since these third party applications are external to the organization and leverage an interaction model which presumes the caller is automation, and not a human. The good news is that this attack pattern is detectable and can be remediated in the Office 365 ecosystem.

Except that you can’t find that File Restore anywhere in the settings..

    1. Hi wr – it does state the following in the article:

“This capability starts rolling out today to all OneDrive for Business users and will continue to roll out over the next few weeks.”

I don’t currently see it in my tenant either.

      Regards,
