Office 365 Weekly Digest | January 14 – 20, 2018

Welcome to the January 14 - 20, 2018 edition of the Office 365 Weekly Digest.

Just like last week, the Office 365 Roadmap has 13 new entries, with 10 of those related to Microsoft Stream. One highlight of the additions, not related to Stream, is a new sharing experience for Message Center that is currently in development and targeted for release in Q1 CY2018.

While there are no new events for this week's digest, there are additional opportunities for existing events, such as the customer immersion experiences. Also, the Azure Active Directory webinars for February are now open for registration.

Included in the roundup from last week's blogs are significant updates for OneDrive for Business, such as the Windows sync client now supporting IRM-protected files. The Yammer mobile app has been updated, and Microsoft Flow has also released new features. There are also some important updates regarding the supported platforms and versions of PowerApps.

Highlights from last week's noteworthy items are updates to the Office 365 URLs and IP addresses, lots of new features for Microsoft Teams in the January 17, 2018 update, a Microsoft IT Showcase video for Power BI, as well as updates for Skype for Business Phone System and Microsoft Bookings.

BLOG ROUNDUP

Now – move files anywhere in Office 365, SharePoint and OneDrive

Last year, we released enhancements that allow you to copy files in Office 365. We're now adding the ability to move files in Office 365 with full fidelity protections for metadata and version management. This enables important scenarios for managing information architecture in Office 365. The capability to move files while preserving metadata and version history enables many common content management scenarios including migration, sharing, publishing, modernizing and multi-geo.

OneDrive sync on Windows now supports IRM protected SharePoint document libraries

Information Rights Management (IRM) lets people set access permissions to help prevent sensitive information from being printed, forwarded, or copied by unauthorized people. When permission for a file is restricted by using IRM, the access and usage restrictions are enforced even if the file reaches unintended recipients. This is because the access permissions are stored in the document, workbook, presentation, or e-mail message itself, and these must be authenticated against the IRM server. In SharePoint, IRM lets you protect your files when downloaded and control who can access downloaded files. Downloaded files are encrypted and can only be opened by users that meet the requirements of the IRM policy set on the SharePoint library. We are currently rolling out an update to the OneDrive sync client that supports syncing IRM protected SharePoint libraries and will hit all users by the end of January. | Resource: Enable users to sync IRM-protected files with the OneDrive sync client

Connecting on the go: Updates to the Yammer mobile app

Yammer gives you open and easy access to conversations across your organization wherever you are. We have appreciated the feedback you have shared about the mobile experience and are constantly innovating so that you can do more in Yammer on the go. We are excited to share some new and upcoming capabilities available in the Yammer mobile app on iOS and Android. Now available: (1) Post announcements about news, upcoming events and new resources for your organization. Announcements help group admins craft messages that stand out because every group member receives a notification and message in their inbox; (2) Use GIFs to give your post a pop, quickly get your point across or emphasize your message. GIFs are a great way to express yourself more visually so that you can increase sharing and engagement; (3) Praise someone or a group of people who have loaned a helping hand or done great work. Recognizing your peers helps your organization foster a more collaborative and positive culture. This capability is now available on iOS and will be available on Android soon. Coming soon: Quick surveys, access to group resources and enhanced accessibility on mobile.

Microsoft Flow: Work with your Office 365 profile, photos and more

This post summarizes recent updates to Microsoft Flow. We have added new actions to the Office 365 Users connector that work with user profiles and photos, including the ability to get and update user profiles, as well as get and update profile photos and update user photo metadata. We have also added a new action: Append to String. Like Append to Array, the Append to String action is particularly useful inside of loops like Do Until or Apply to each. Lastly, the new Infobip connector is now available. Infobip is a service that enables enterprise grade communication. Note: the Infobip connector is the first one to also support triggering a flow based on an incoming SMS. This means you can start a business process by having someone text a phone number (and can use that text message in the flow)! | Related: Flow of the Week: Selective calendar event sync using Condition advanced editor mode and Boolean expressions

Update on supported platforms and versions of PowerApps

We want to provide an update on some changes to supported platforms and versions of PowerApps. We are making these changes and providing some suggestions to ensure that we can continue to provide best experiences for all of our customers. Most of these changes will be effective February 1st, 2018. The changes include: (1) PowerApps on Android, iOS and PowerApps Studio for Windows with version lower than 2.0.710 will not be supported starting February 1st and you will be prompted to update the app on launch; (2) PowerApps supports a wide variety of device platforms and browsers, but for the best experience we recommend specific configurations (detailed in the post) on Android, iOS, Browser and Windows Desktop; and (3) Support for PowerApps (preview) on Windows Phone will be discontinued starting February 1st. The app will continue to be available in the store, but it will not be supported. It will not include any future enhancements or security fixes. As an alternative we recommend you use the built-in browser. | Related: Performance considerations with PowerApps

Call Queues: Agent Opt In/Out feature has been rolled out to all customers

Call Queue Agent Opt In/Out feature is now rolled out to all Skype for Business Online customers with Phone System (formerly CloudPBX) SKU in all Regions. This update allows Admins to grant Call Queue Agents an ability to Opt In and Out from taking calls from a particular Queue at will. For all newly created Call Queues, Agent Opt In/Out option will be enabled by default. For pre-existing Call Queues, Admins will need to enable this feature manually. Enabling Agents to Opt out will allow them to manage their own ability to receive calls from a Call Queue. Note that this Call Queue option can be disabled at any time, upon which all the Agents in the Queue will automatically become Opted In and would no longer be able to change their status on their own. | Related: Call Queues and Auto Attendant training January 2018 update

Microsoft Bookings now has multi-day bookings and customizable time increments

We love reading your feedback in User Voice. It gives us insight into what we need to do to make Bookings better and helps us prioritize our work. We're introducing two highly-requested features to Bookings related to flexibility and customization. There are many businesses that provide all-day and even multi-day services—things like complex projects, lodging, tours, and extended excursions. With this new feature you can now using Bookings to let your customers book you for these types of events. Every business is unique. That's why we provide customizable options for your Bookings page to make sure the booking process meets the specific needs of your business. We recently added more granular and customizable booking time increments. This gives you full control over exactly when your appointments are available, for situations when the standard set of booking time increment options we previously offered doesn't meet your needs.
