New Feature: Mobile Push Notifications for OneDrive for Business and SharePoint

Posted: September 19, 2016 | Urgency: Normal | Category: Stay Informed | Action: Awareness | Mobile Push Notifications for OneDrive for Business and SharePoint is a new Office 365 feature. We are currently rolling this out to all customers and we expect to have this rollout completed by December 31, 2016. This new feature will allow end users to receive mobile push notifications when other people share files and folders with them from OneDrive for Business and SharePoint Online. Because there will be some data, including the user and file name, passed through Google Cloud Messaging and Apple Push Notification Service, we have also enabled an admin toggle to disable any mobile notifications about content changes in your tenant. This has administrative controls to enable and disable. This feature is on by default and can be found in the SharePoint Admin Center under “Site Settings”.

Microsoft Tech Community: End of support for Exchange 2007 may affect your Office 365 ProPlus users

If your organization is still using Exchange Server 2007 you should be aware that the end of support for Exchange 2007 is coming up on April 11, 2017. In addition, as of February 28th, 2017, the 2013 version of Office 365 ProPlus will no longer be supported. Users running the 2013 version of Office 365 ProPlus are encouraged to update to the 2016 version prior to this date. 2013 users will still receive critical security updates, but they will no longer receive product updates for new features that are added to the service. If you have users that are currently using the 2013 version of Office 365 ProPlus connecting to Exchange Server 2007 for mail and calendar you will need to provide an Exchange environment that is supported by the 2016 version of Office 365 ProPlus.

GigJam expands support for interaction styles and content types

GigJam helps you get work done across your network by sharing just the slice of information you want, with who you need—both inside and outside your company. We’re pleased to announce that we’ve added two major capabilities to the GigJam Preview. First, we added the ability to share slices of images, documents and live line-of-business information with people who aren’t online at the time of sending and expire that information in 24 hours. Second, we added the ability to redact arbitrary content from images, PDFs or slides, ensuring that an object in a picture, a text block or a particular bullet doesn’t even go over to the recipient.

What is the weakest link in your security?

Here’s a sobering realization: You can have the most sophisticated computer security in the world and it won’t always protect you. Everything you rely on to keep your confidential data secure can be accidentally undone by one employee—in a matter of seconds. That’s because hackers, more and more, are attacking the weakest link in your cybersecurity—your end users. It’s called social engineering. And it’s a serious problem. It’s not new. This form of attack has been around longer than computers themselves, but as networks have become harder to break into manually, it’s seen a huge resurgence. | ebook: Insider’s Guide to Social Engineering
