New Feature: “Save a copy” for Class Notebooks in Office 365 Education

Posted: July 13, 2016 | Urgency: Normal | Category: Stay Informed | Action: Awareness | As OneNote Class Notebooks have become more popular, we’ve often been asked how a student or teacher might take those digital books with him/her when leaving school. Students graduate, or change schools and would like to be able to bring the portfolio of work with them. Teachers also change school or move away. Based on talking to lots of teachers and students, we’ve launched the new Save a Copy feature for Class Notebooks. This new feature will begin rolling out today, and should complete over the next few weeks. When this feature enabled, users will be able to save a copy of their notebooks to their personal OneDrive and make it available for use elsewhere. More details are available at http://aka.ms/classnotebooksaveacopyblog.

Content Type New Button Order supported in the SharePoint modern document library experience

Posted: July 15, 2016 | Urgency: Normal | Category: Stay Informed | Action: Awareness | We are enabling support for the Content Type New Button Order feature in the modern experience in SharePoint Online document libraries. This change will begin rolling out today, July 15th and is expected to complete by the end of the month. Previously, document libraries that had this feature configured would automatically revert to classic mode. This will no longer happen, and custom content type ordering will be reflected in the new menu in the modern document library UX. This may result in some users seeing the modern document library for the first time. Data Loss Prevention Policy Tips in OneDrive mobile apps

With more people getting work done and collaborating with others on their mobile devices, organizations are finding it even harder to secure their sensitive data. We see many organizations making it a priority to better secure their sensitive content no matter the device being used to access and share it. To help organizations empower their employees to work anywhere at any time while helping to protect their content, we’re pleased to announce we have extended the Office 365 Data Loss Prevention Policy Tips to OneDrive mobile apps for Android, iOS and Universal Windows. Policy tips are contextual, user-facing notifications that educate people when they’re about to send, share or work with sensitive data, such as credit card, passport or driver’s license numbers. Policy tips help empower and educate users, while still allowing them to get their jobs done with enhanced security and stay compliant with your data protection policies. With this addition, your organization’s Data Loss Prevention policies, related to content stored in SharePoint and OneDrive for Business, are now viewable on mobile devices. This complements what is already supported today with the web and Office 2016 clients, including Outlook.

Announcing the public preview of the new Office 365 Network online community

We are pleased to announce the public preview of the new Office 365 Network. Over the last three years, the Office 365 Network has become a vibrant online community for IT pros, technical experts, product enthusiasts and Office 365 customers to come together and share best practices related to Office 365. As more organizations embrace the cloud and move to Office 365, we want to make the wealth of valuable information in the Office 365 Network available to anyone who is looking for it. Currently, the Office 365 Network is hosted as an authenticated Yammer network, which requires registration and sign-in to participate in the community, and makes discussion content searchable and discoverable only by users who are registered and signed in to the network. In an effort to make the community content accessible to anyone, the new Office 365 Network will be hosted on an unauthenticated platform, meaning community posts will appear in internet search results and visitors won’t have to sign in to view content in the network. The Office 365 Network will continue to be a community for valuable insights and great conversations, including engagement from Office 365 product teams seeking input and feedback on products, knowledge sharing among community members and involvement from product experts, who help make the Office 365 Network the place to be for passionate technology pros to connect every day. | Additional Resources: Office 365 Network Guidelines | Getting Started Guide

Plug in to success—7 steps for a strategic technology lifecycle

Take a minute to think about the applications you use, the programs you depend on and the technologies you’ve integrated into your business. Now ask yourself these questions: If a specific application supported my company in the past, how is it benefiting me now? Are our programs performing in line with our desired standard? What, if anything, am I doing to ensure my technology is not outdated? Is my vendor providing me with resources to manage my applications? Am I really getting the maximum business value from these solutions? To answer these questions, many enterprise scale organizations use established processes to manage their technology. A technology lifecycle—or TLC—offers a systematic approach for assessing the state of your technologies. Thankfully, this indispensable method applies to both enterprise scale organizations and small and midsize businesses. So whether you’re an experienced IT professional or a technological tenderfoot, considering your TLC will yield promising, practical results.
