New to Office 365 in January—new inking tools, collaboration improvements, Office Insider builds now available for Mac and more

We’re starting off the New Year with new ways to work with Office! We’re improving the inking experience so writing and drawing with your finger, pen or stylus are more intuitive and powerful. We’re bringing PowerPoint Designer and Morph, available last month in Windows, to additional platforms. Also, Office 365 consumer subscribers with Macs can now get Office Insider builds for first access to new features.

Cloud PBX with Skype for Business - simplify communications in the cloud

With Skype for Business Cloud PBX (Private Branch Exchange), users can globally manage calls right within Office 365 and eliminate separate PBX systems for information workers. This provides users with access everywhere, so they can make, receive and transfer calls from mobiles, tablets and PCs from nearly anywhere with Internet access. It also provides consolidated management, so the Office 365 administration portal is the central location to manage users for communications, email and content.

Embed video throughout your intranet

A video message that is easy to find and easy to view will be more successful than one buried in the depths of one, two, three clicks away. When you put a company message from the CxO or a status update from a project leader—front and center where employees and team members are—the information and insights will be better targeted, more fully understood and ultimately shared within the right context. Within Office 365, it is possible to place videos (embed) in-line and in-context where people work on projects, online and on-premises. You can do this within SharePoint Team Sites, custom company portals, internal blogs, wikis and more. Using the Office 365 Video solution, it is as simple as copy, paste and publish.

Sway Recycle Bin, full screen mode in Windows, Send to Sway add-in for OneNote (preview) and more!

Happy New Year from the Sway team! It’s now been a few months since Sway became generally available. Last month we introduced new controls that allow Office 365 business and education admins to better manage and tailor the way Sway is used within their organization. This month we’re ushering in 2016 with new Sway capabilities we recently added to enhance your experience and increase the ways you can use Sway to create polished, interactive content.

From Inside the Cloud - What protection exists for your data in Office 365?

Office 365 has one of the largest data sets in the world. As people author and share files, send email and collaborate on their day-to-day tasks, terabytes and terabytes of enterprise data flows through the service at any given time. We focus on protecting your data everywhere it is authored and shared, without disrupting your ability to get work done. This is a very real and vital engineering goal and requires an approach that balances both information security and end user needs. It starts with harnessing the intelligence of the service itself and providing the controls to tailor protection to your specific organization requirements. Perhaps the most important engineering principle we adhere to is ensuring that you are able to define and set rules for your data that follow your data. This is a departure from past approaches in the industry where the focus was on protecting device endpoints. Most importantly, we don’t want you to have to take your data out of the service to protect it. We offer pervasive protection, which means the controls are built into the service.
