Data Protection Manager and The Cloud

There has been one too many conversations about Data Protection Manager and The Cloud… Some of them correct and others eventually a little bit less correct, so I decide to write this post in order to clear things a bit and hopefully help someone with it.

So apart from being able to protect to disk, tape and disk to disk to tape we can actually protect our information online, now how can we do that?

We have basically two great partners who have been with us on this, and they are Iron Mountain who provide us CloudRecovery solution and I365 who provide us a brilliant solution called EVault (DPM):

CloudRecovery

The new release of Iron Mountain, CloudRecovery, will provide support for DPM 2010 in addition to continued support for DPM 2007 with Service Pack 1. To support rapid corporate data growth, the solution also provides increased scalability – protecting multi-terabyte servers.

“We need to have systems that are always on, and always available.  This is especially true when it comes to the backup and recovery needs of our Microsoft applications – including Exchange, SQL, and SharePoint,” said Alan Bourassa, CIO, Empire CLS. “The seamless integration between Microsoft DPM and Iron Mountain CloudRecovery is ideal for addressing these requirements and we are looking forward to taking advantage of the new features that will be available with the new release.”

EVault (DPM)

EVault (DPM) is an all-in-one backup and recovery appliance for Microsoft centric, mixed computing environments. And besides that believe-it or not even to non Microsoft Platforms… all in the same box!!!

 EVault Microsoft Data Protection Appliance

It integrates with your Microsoft business applications and offers the most up-to-date protection for your Microsoft systems. You also gain broad non-Microsoft system protection; optimized cloud connectivity for fast, secure, affordable offsite disaster recovery; and the simple deployment and maintenance of an all-in-one appliance.

Jason Buffington, recently blogged about the DPM 2010 release and the i365 partnership.

So basically these are the solutions we have with these two brilliant partners, and that should be what is considered to be recommended, any further information until today’s date may not be absolutely true…
