Photo Tour: Environmental Education Comes to Life!

Continuing its strong support of environmental education, Microsoft joined Environmental Volunteers in Palo Alto on Sunday, to celebrate the grand opening of the EcoCenter, the Bay Area’s newest environmental education facility. 

Over the years, Microsoft has partnered with Environmental Volunteers through grants and volunteerism. Most recently, the two organizations were part of an initiative that successfully created a comprehensive environmental education curriculum in Mountain View.

The renovated EcoCenter is a community hub, focused on teaching nature and environmental responsibility through hands-on science education.

EcoCenter’s ship-shaped building is a historical landmark; in 1986 the Palo Alto City Council decided to close the harbor that once allowed the Sea Scouts to launch their boats from the dock.

The newly opened center will provide various learning opportunities and ecological programs.  Educational programs are tailored to foster environmental learning for children, adults and families with activities such as: nature art programs, hikes, birding expeditions, lectures, natural science learning days, and Citizen Science.

Everybody can learn something at the EcoCenter. The building teaches through its architecture with peek-a-boo windows on the walls and floors that reveal the actual floor of the marsh.

The grand opening featured tours of the EcoCenter, bird watching, a scavenger hunt, a raffle, music, and free giveaways.

The EcoCenter offers interactive touchscreen displays with state-of-the-art science exhibits for visitors of all ages to explore different themes.
