SMTP Configuration Unspecified error
Hotfix for the hotfix eh? Previously I had a post about common errors in SharePoint after a new installation: SharePoint Exception Errors: Event ID 6398, Event ID 6482, Event ID 7076
The resolution for that is to install a hotfix (kb 946517). Well it seems that the ability to make SMTP configuration changes in IIS are somewhat prohibited after that hotfix is installed. This leaves you with three options if you need to make your changes.
- Uninstall the hotfix; Make your smtp changes; reapply the hotfix
- Install another hotfix to resolve the smtp error
- Utilize the IIS snapin in MMC from a remote machine
