Virtualization: System Center Virtual Machine Manager Self-Service Portal 2.0 – Release Candidate Available!

Customers are looking to cloud-based solutions that will help them reduce IT costs, while increasing agility for their organization.  System Center Virtual Machine Manager Self-Servicing Portal 2.0 (SSP), a key component of Microsoft’s cloud strategy, gives customers the tools and tested guidance they need to build the foundation for a private cloud infrastructure.

Using SSP, customers can deliver IT as a service to their organization, enabling them to respond more quickly—and at a lower cost—to rapidly changing demands for IT resources.  Like all Solution Accelerators, SSP is free, and fully-supported by Microsoft.

The Release Candidate for SSP is now available!   Want to give your customers an advance look?  Just send them this link.

Allocates datacenter resources: SSP pools datacenter infrastructure resources, such as network, storage, load balancers, virtual machine templates, and domains—and makes them available to business units to meet their infrastructure needs.  SSP also establishes the costs associated with reserving and using infrastructure resources.

Simplifies business unit on-boarding: SSP simplifies the process of on-boarding a new business unit infrastructure request.  SSP provides a way for data center administrators (DC administrators) to register business unit requirements in one centralized location.  Business unit administrators can request resources in the organization’s infrastructure pool to host their IT services.

Validates and provisions infrastructure: SSP also simplifies the process for DC administrators to validate and provision a business unit IT administrator’s infrastructure requests. Using SSP, DC administrators can provision the requested resources, and assign them to a requesting business unit IT administrator.

Enables self-service provisioning: SSP provides an end-user self-service portal for virtual machine provisioning. SSP streamlines the business unit IT user’s experience in managing virtual machines.  And SSP’s extensibility scripts reduce the manual steps associated with provisioning virtual machine resources.

Enables partner extensibility: SSP includes powerful extensibility features for IHV/ISV/SI’s. Partners can customize different VM actions (create, delete, stop, start, shutdown, connect, pause, etc.) to leverage the unique characteristics of their infrastructure.
