Zero hour . . .

Well I'm sitting on a couch in a lounge outside of the conference room where I just gave my presentation to a couple hundred people.  WHEW!!!  Damn it feels good to have this thing off my plate now . . . I've literally spent months preparing the presentation, working on the VM's, rehearsing things to make sure everything went smoothely agonizing over details etc.  I had to make some adjustments at the last minute last night because the conference room I was in was rather large and the two projector displays were rather small.  I ran at 1280x1024 on my notebook and ran the VM's at 800x600 . . . to make sure the peeps in the audience could see all of the stuff going on in the VM's I downloaded the latest version of ZoomIt from Sysinternals last night.  The only problem is I didn't realize (during my first demo) that ZoomIt was simply a print-screen of whatever was on the screen at the time you told it to zoom in - so I was launching the PowerPoint document and as the logo was coming up I hit CTRL-1 to bring up a zoomed view and that view stayed up for about 15 seconds or so (a life time when you're on the podium with nothing to say) while I wondered why PowerPoint seemed to be hung . . . I hit escape to undo the zoomed view only to see that PowerPoint had already opened and gone through the whole malware attack.  Bah!  Guess I didn't hit that bug in my rehearsal at 1am this morning.  So I quickly realized Zoomit was just doing a printscreen and not providing continuous updating of the screen in the zoomed view so I ran the demo again and only zoomed in as needed after that . . . it worked really well I think and a person I had planted in the back (cough, my wife, cough) told me she could see everything just fine.  It was sort of nice having my wife in the presentation as she was finally forced to sit down and see / hear what I do. ๐Ÿ™‚  She sat next to my boss's boss's boss's boss (GeorgeSt) who is presenting a keynote this afternoon that I'm going to attend and then it will be siesta time while I plan my 10pm dinner (they eat REALLY late over here) . . . I'll probably go sleep by the pool - I'll try and post a picture of the view from the pool - it's freaking unreal.

Oh and as a side note - that bluescreen I experienced the other day?  I was pretty sure it wasn't just 'random happenstance' and that someone was having some 'fun' with me (or possibly everyone on the network) . . . and I heard rumors I may have been singled out last night.  ๐Ÿ™‚  It's all good - I can understand why you'd want to try and own me at a conference like this but I have some things going for me.  One - I'm running 64bit Vista - which is probably more obscure than OSX at this point. ๐Ÿ™‚  Not only that - I have hardware DEP on in the more paranoid mode (opt-out) so I'm pretty confident had their been an actual overrun it would have been mitigated by DEP . . . I'm pretty confident there was no code execution - just a nice DoS type attack against an old (by now) inbox Vista driver (which IMHO is still cause for concern).  I'm still going to check out the dump more closely when I get back and see if this is something we need to let Intel know about (it may already be fixed in the latest drivers I just installed - not certain - haven't had any more problems - but I left my radio switched off during the presentation - just in case). ๐Ÿ™‚

Oh yeah - I just talked to a guy from F-Secure named Patrick - pretty cool guy - he's blogging from Spain as well and he just said he mentioned my presentation over in the F-Secure blog - sorta cool - I have a lot of respect for those guys and to be get a mention in their blog is really cool for a geek wannabe like me. ๐Ÿ™‚

    Hi Robert,

try the zoom function from our IntelliPoint software. If you have a Microsoft mouse (like the Notebook Presenter Mouse 8000) with a zoom button it works like a charm. It is constantly updating, doesn’t stop Aero Glass and you can also type text into a cmd shell in a zoomed view.
