TechNet flash update for Kiwi Developers TechEd tickets

The 6th annual New Zealand SharePoint Conference was held in Auckland on 22-23 July. The two day event attracts more people each year, and with over 30 world-class speakers presenting on a range of topics, there was truly something for all audiences: from business users to developers, and everyone in between. Many of our overseas speakers came to NZ on the heels of the Australian SharePoint Conference in Sydney (15-16 July).

A popular initiative this year was to invite delegates, speakers and sponsors to communicate via a Yammer network prior (and during) the conference, enabling valuable networks of like-minded peers to be developed. There was good interaction between speakers and those asking questions on Yammer.

A new bonus for delegates was the ability to view sessions through Conference Explorer kiosks that had been videoed and mapped (indexed) for explicit content using a knowledge capture tool called Glyma .

The deployment of SharePoint in schools was highlighted in several sessions aimed at educational professionals and these were very well received.

Microsoft’s two hour keynote presentation focussed on “Connect. Reimagine. Transform” and featured a variety of speakers discussing cloud technology and business transformation, an industry case study and introduced new technologies such as Delve and a sneak preview of the new Surface Pro 3, which is being released today.

Popular sessions at the conference included the real life case studies and the interactive sessions where attendees could see how the technology could be applied to their organisation. Session feedback included descriptions of “engaging”, “relevant”, “interesting”, “insightful”, “useful” and “inspirational”. The Vegas themed social night was a hit and a great evening of socializing and networking!

For a bit more information, Marc Anderson, MVP (USA speaker), has written a wrap-up of the Australian conference here. And Rebecca Jackson (AU speaker), has published her “sketchnotes” of both conferences here.
