End of the UDDI Service and Server Ramifications

This is from KB 2708963 Administrators receive a security warning and an error message when they try to perform some tasks for Windows Rights Management Services 1.0 for Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2

The Universal Description Discover and Integration (UDDI) service is no longer available as of May 18, 2012. This affects RMS v1 servers in some scenarios. The above KB details the cause, effect, and resolution for this change.

I just wanted to call out the scenarios, error messages, and show some screenshots. Thanks the the RMS team for sharing this with me.

Scenario One: Administrators attempting to renew a Server Licensor Certificate (SLC) for Windows Rights Management Services (RMS) 1.0 with Service Pack 2 (SP2) for Microsoft Windows Server 2003 will see a Security Alert stating either “The Certificate Issuer for this site is untrusted or unknown” or that “The certificate you are viewing does not match the name of the site you are trying to view. Once the administrator chooses to cancel the dialog or to proceed with the untrusted site they will see the following error message:

Scenario Two: Administrators attempting to establish a trusted user domain to trust Passport-based Rights Account Certificates (RACs) for Windows Rights Management Services (RMS) 1.0 with Service Pack 2 (SP2) for Microsoft Windows Server will see the same Security Alert stating either “The Certificate Issuer for this site is untrusted or unknown” or that “The certificate you are viewing does not match the name of the site you are trying to view. Once the administrator chooses to cancel the dialog or to proceed with the untrusted site they will see the following error message:

The KB shows the registry entries needed to resolve the errors. Don’t forget the iisreset after the registry changes.
