Well, I know DOS, I know DDOS, but I never knew PDOS until today: there seems to be a new way to attack systems using the firmware update mechanism and generating a Permanent Denial of Service (actually damaging the hardware)….

I was involved in a Ciritical Infrastrucutre Protection workshop about 2 years ago and one of the base scenarios we looked at was a worm that damages hardware. One of the big (very big) hardware vendors then told us that we could kind of play this silly game but that this scenario is completely unlikely.
