Tip: Moving Deployment Tools to another server

The following steps will help you to move the Deployment tools from one server to another.

For example,

From Old Server: MPS01 to New Server: MPS02

  1. Ensure that the Provisioning Deployment Tools have been shutdown.
  2. Perform a file backup of the ConfigShare and MSIShare directory.
  3. Then go to System Container in the Domain NC in AD. You should find an object named "MPS Server Config Entity"
  4. Rename that object to say "old MPS Server Config Entity"
  5. Then go to MPS02, install the MPS Deployment Tools (you can refer to the steps in the Deployment Walkthrough). The installation will automatically recreate the AD object and also all the necessary file share folders.
  6. Then copy the content of the backed up ConfigShare and MSIShare folders back to the newly deployed MPS02. IMPORTANT: Copy the content and not the main folder because you do not want to remove the file shares created.
  7. Then Start Deployment Tools and check if you have back all the previous configurations.
