Today we have a guest blogger.
Stephen Baron is a Program Manager for System Center on the Virtual Machine Manager team. He’ll be doing a two-part blog related to the Windows Azure Pack:
Application Management – Service Models Web Platform Installer Gallery (this post)
Application Management – Virtual Hard Disk Requirements of Windows Azure Pack Gallery Items
In this post, Stephen will be discussing Service Models in the Web Platform Installer Gallery. Shawn Gibbs recently posted an introduction to Service Model content on the Web Platform Installer Feed; you can check that out here.
The Service Models Web Platform Installer Gallery has been updated to include a number of samples which are compatible with the RTM versions of the Windows Azure Pack (Gallery Resources) and System Center 2012 R2 (SCVMM Service Templates).
While this blog post will provide a brief overview of setting up the feed and downloading items, you can find more detailed coverage via a video which walks through setting up the feed in the Web Platform Installer client, downloading a couple sample items and finally importing the items into the Windows Azure Pack VM Clouds Gallery and System Center 2012 R2 in a more detailed fashion.
To get started, download and run the Web Platform Installer and click the Options link at the bottom of the UI. In the change options page, add the Service Models custom feed, which is located at http://www.microsoft.com/web/webpi/partners/servicemodels.xml. Click the Add feed button and then click the OK button:
Once that’s done, you’ll have a new Service Models tab available in the top navigation bar:
After clicking the Continue button, an Explorer window will open for each package which was downloaded. Each download will contain the artifacts to be imported as well as a Read Me file with instructions specific to the particular package. Note that some items will require you to download external payload prior to importing the package, so make sure to check the Read Me files prior to import.
