Etude de cas Sql Services : Microsoft Exchange Hosted Archive

Everyone knows how quickly e-mail can stack up, but for Microsoft Exchange Hosted Archive (EHA), which provides e-mail retention and management services for corporate customers and other large organizations, the measurements are made using petabytes (1 petabyte = 1,024 terabytes). Exchange Hosted Archive, currently hosted on a vast server farm using Microsoft® SQL Server® 2005 Enterprise Edition running on Windows Server® 2003 Enterprise Edition, will soon move to a cloud-based solution using Microsoft SQL Data Services Infrastructure, part of Microsoft SQL Services. The large archive, with a very high incoming message rate, will have greater scalability and enhanced performance hosted on the cloud-based solution.

Microsoft is moving its Exchange Hosted Archive to a cloud-based solution using Microsoft SQL Data Services Infrastructure, part of Microsoft SQL Services. SQL Services offer highly scalable and Internet-facing distributed database services in the cloud for storing and processing relational queries. The services, built on robust Microsoft SQL Server database and Windows Server technologies, provide high availability and scalability.

When fully deployed in early 2009, Microsoft anticipates SDS will hold petabytes (1 petabyte = 1,024 terabytes) of archived message data, and see continual growth.
