OpsMgr 2007: SQL 2000 on Windows Server 2003 Itanium servers may not be discovered by the SQL MP

This isn’t an issue we see very often just because SQL 2000 is nearly at the end of its supported lifecycle and this only affects those installed on Itanium Servers, but I thought it would be worth a mention here just in case anyone runs into it. 

The issue is that when you have SQL 2000 running on a Windows Server 2003 Itanium server, the SQL Management Pack for System Center Operations Manager 2007 is unable to discover that those computers are running SQL. 

Fortunately this is an easy fix.  To resolve this issue create the following registry key value on the Itanium servers:

Key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MSSQLServer\Setup
Entry: FeatureName
Type: REG_SZ
Value: SQL_Engine
