Microsoft Private Cloud: Cross Platform from the Metal Up

For a growing number of businesses, the journey to cloud computing starts with a private cloud implementation. In his keynote today, Microsoft’s Brad Anderson kicked off the Microsoft Management Summit by discussing this trend and how Microsoft’s Private Cloud solution can help customers realize key cloud computing benefits, including increased agility, cost savings, and rapid innovation.

There was particularly good fodder for customers with mixed IT environments, as Brad described Microsoft’s Private Cloud solution as “cross platform from the metal up”, meaning it’s architected to enable process automation and configuration across platforms and environments. You can manage multiple hypervisors, including VMware, Citrix, and Microsoft offerings.  You can run and monitor all major operating systems.  And, you can develop new applications using multiple toolsets.  From Brad’s keynote, “We showed in the demo today that we were able to actually administer cloud capacity that's being delivered from our hypervisor, from VMware, from Xen. You can make the choice of what's best for you to use, then we'll make it all appear in one consistent, one cohesive manner.”
