How to use command line to change/activate MAK product key for Office 2010 installation?

Happy 2011 to all!

Sometimes, we may not be able to launch UI/wizard to change or activate the MAK product key for Office 2010 installation successfully. For example, the UI/wizard just gets to hang or be blocked by something in the specific client machine environment.

We could consider/test to use the ospp.vbs script installed with Office 2010 to change/add the product key and activate Office 2010 on the machine. For relevant details, please refer to the following commands sample:

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office14>cscript ospp.vbs /inpkey:xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx (Note: Where xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx is the Product Key.)

After the Product Key has been inputted, we can run the following command to activate it:

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office14>cscript ospp.vbs /act

For more details about the command options for the VBScript tool OSPP.VBS(Office 2010 Client Software License Management Tool), please refer to “C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office14\OSPP.HTM”.

    Just a note

On x64 the path would be "C:Program Files (x86)Microsoft OfficeOffice14" if you are running 32bit Office

It works, but it doesn’t update the key that is shown by software the query’s the keys in use. Is there a way to make it update the key that is shown? When I query my PC’s with PDQ Inventory, it still pulls back the old key. I have to hack the registry to get it to update the key that is shown

    hi All,
Is there any way to to activate the OEM based product as i have Visio which is OEM and we installed it via GPO which is automated and it asks for Activation via Phone/Internet which is manual process. Is there any way by which it can be automated.
