Upcoming change to the release schedule for non-security updates

We want to let you know about an important change coming to the release schedule for Office updates so that you can plan accordingly. Until now, both security and non-security updates have been released on the second Tuesday of each month. Starting in April, the non-security updates will be released in Microsoft Update and the Windows Server Update Service (WSUS) on the first Tuesday of the month, which is April 5 in this case. This will include all updates that have the Critical or Definition classification. Updates with the Security classification will continue to release on second Tuesday as usual.

This change applies only to the MSI version of Office. Office Click-To-Run (C2R) will release on second Tuesday.

How will this impact C2R releases? Will they still come out on second Tuesday to incorporate the security releases?

  3. Susan says:

  9. David says:

The prerequisites for each says SP1, so are the MSI versions cumulative or would a manual update of Office 2013 need all the monthly updates since SP1 or just the current month’s? Is there any possibility of getting a rollup or does MS not make them available any more?

    1. The most recent release of an update for an Office MSI app, such as Outlook 2013, contains all of the fixes that were in SP1 plus all of the fixes that have been added since SP1. So you only need to install the most recent month’s release to be up to date.
