Excel Online – Guest Link – This workbook contains external data connections or BI features that are not supported.


Guest user have been encountering the below error when clicking on Slicers in a SharePoint Online PowerPivot workbook.

"Excel Online - This workbook contains external data connections or BI features that are not supported."


Here are the steps they are following:





The URL ends up looking like this:

https://tschauer-my.sharepoint.com/personal/admin_tschauer_onmicrosoft_com/_layouts/15/guestaccess.aspx?guestaccesstoken=DT4MuQV804mm5ydYzfQK1mmjlwGxzrWjrw8kdj%2bFEsU%3d&docid=0dc2bc40c4f484f1da7d7b30b0cc4286b

If the workbook Slicers are hitting a Data Model, you need to enable BI Features by adding these parameters to the end: action=embedview and wdbipreview=true
