This month's presentations include an overview of Windows Server Update Services 3.0, and another subject in our ongoing series of Windows Server 2008 features - Group Policy. We will also show some very cool new Group Policy functionality that is currently unannounced, but will be public by the time of these presentations in late November!
Windows Server Update Services 3.0
This session focuses on Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) network architecture and deployment methodologies, from single server to replica hierarchies. It also covers how to migrate from WSUS 2.0 to WSUS 3 and looks at the day-to-day management of Windows Server Update Services (WSUS), including backup strategy, compliance reporting, reboot strategy, and health monitoring. We will also discuss the new WSUS3.0 SP1 features that are about to release as well.
Windows Server 2008 Group Policy
Group Policy and the Active Directory services infrastructure in Windows Server 2008 enable IT administrators to automate one-to-many management of users and computers—simplifying administrative tasks and reducing IT costs. Administrators can efficiently implement security settings, enforce IT policies, and distribute software consistently across a given site, domain, or range of organisational units. Windows Server 2008 includes Group Policy preferences, which allow you to better deploy and manage operating system and application settings. Group Policy preferences enable information technology professionals to configure, deploy, and manage operating system and application settings they previously were not able to manage using Group Policy. Examples include mapped drives, scheduled tasks, and Start menu settings. For many types of operating system and application settings, using Group Policy preferences is a better alternative to configuring them in Windows images or using logon scripts.
