Microsoft Lync Server 2010 does not support the use of Microsoft SQL Server 2012 for the following server roles:
- Lync Server 2010, Enterprise Edition Back End Server databases
- Lync Server 2010, Standard Edition collocated server databases
- Lync Server 2010, Central Management store master replica databases
- Lync Server 2010, Archiving Server, Archiving service databases
- Lync Server 2010, Monitoring Server Reports databases
- Lync Server 2010, server role replica databases
The reason this is not supported is because SQL Server 2012 no longer uses the Database Management Objects (DMO) functionality that is used by the following Lync Server 2010 installation sources:
- The Lync Server 2010 Deployment Wizard
- The Lync Server 2010 Install-CsDatabase PowerShell cmdlet
For details, see KB 2718721, SQL Server 2012 is not supported in some Lync Server 2010 server roles.

I'm confused. It says "Some roles" don't support SQL 2012, but the list contains almost all main roles. What roles are supported with SQL 2012 then?
Alex, we're checking on this with Angela. Please stay tuned.
This is all fine and dandy considering that SQL 2012 has just released. Are there plans to patch Lync 2010 to be supported on SQL 2012, or are customers going to be required to move to Lync Wave 15 to be able to migrate their Lync infrastructures to SQL 2012?
Also, if there are plans to make Lync 2010 supported on SQL 2012, are there any approximate timelines that can be shared?
We're working on this, folks. I escalated to the Marketing and Support teams for clarification.
When will we hear back on the status?
