Enable Remote Call Control (Office Communications Server 2007)

Topic Last Modified: 2010-12-15

Remote call control enables users to control their desktop
private branch exchange (PBX) phones by using Microsoft Lync 2010.
Enabling remote call control requires five steps. The following table
describes where and when these steps occur when you are migrating to
Microsoft Lync Server 2010 from a previous version of Office
Communications Server.

Step
When occurs

Remove legacy trusted server entries

Use the Office Communications Server 2007 Administrative Tools
to remove legacy trusted application server entries prior to moving
them to Lync Server 2010.

Configure the remote call control gateway to communicate with the PBX.

When you deploy and configure your Lync Server 2010 pilot
pool. If you plan to migrate remote call control, this step is a
prerequisite to migration.

Create trusted server and static route entries for routing requests to the remote call control gateway.

After the topology is merged and policies and settings are
migrated. This is a manual step after the automated migration is
complete. The procedures in this section describe how to perform these
tasks.

Configure users for remote call control.

When you migrate users. The remote call control setting is
migrated along with all the other user settings. For details about
migrating users, see Move Remaining Users to Lync Server 2010 (Office Communications Server 2007 Migration).

Configure Lync 2010.

When you deploy Lync 2010. Administrators can use group policy to apply this setting when they deploy clients. For details, see Deploy Lync Server 2010 Clients.

Verify Address Book phone number normalization rules, if you customized normalization rules.

After the topology is merged and policies and settings are
migrated. This is a manual step after the automated migration is
complete, and applies only if you customized the normalization rules.
For details about migrating Address Book normalization rules, see Migrate Address Book (Office Communications Server 2007).
