Rijksmuseum Amsterdam - Network Access Protection Helps Art Museum Share Information More Securely
The Rijksmuseum Amsterdam is a museum in the Netherlands that showcases Dutch art from the Middle Ages to the twentieth century. The museum has a long history of making art accessible to the public, and the tradition of accessibility also extends to its technology environment. Visiting colleagues and students can connect to the network using the museum’s workstations or their own mobile devices. However, although workstations were tightly managed, the museum could not guarantee the health of visitors’ client devices. To improve security, the Rijksmuseum is implementing Windows Server® 2008 with Network Access Protection. As a result, the museum can automatically enforce security policies for client devices before they connect to the network. The museum’s resources will be more secure, and it can move forward with new projects for sharing its art and information.
Fulton County - Forward-Thinking County Government Enhances IT Security and Manageability
The Fulton County IT department is responsible for thousands of computers across dozens of government departments. Having faced network disruptions in the past due to noncompliant computers, the county needed a new security solution. In response, it is deploying Windows Server® 2008 to take advantage of Network Access Protection (NAP). After an initial deployment, help-desk call volume decreased by 75 percent, for a projected annual savings of more than U.S.$150,000 in maintenance costs.
Microsoft Corporation - Microsoft Improves Security Policy Compliance with Network Access Protection
With 71,000 highly mobile users worldwide, Microsoft wanted a new way to measure and improve its 300,000+ client computers’ compliance with corporate security policies. The company deployed Network Access Protection (NAP), a feature of the Windows Server® 2008 operating system, to improve the security policy compliance of its desktop computers, roaming portable computers, visiting portable computers, and unmanaged home computers. Now Microsoft is increasing compliance with security policies and adding efficiency to its security management process. The company also benefits from the scalability of NAP and the flexibility to deploy it for a variety of access scenarios—including virtual private network connections, Internet Protocol security access, and Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol address configurations—with varying levels of implementation.
