The Microsoft Azure Partner Community is led by National Partner Technology Strategists from the Microsoft US Partner Team. Partner Community activities include blog posts, discussions on Yammer, newsletters, and community calls.

This is part 3 of our series about data platforms and big data on Microsoft Azure. Read part 1 here and read part 2 here.

Azure DocumentDB

Azure DocumentDB is a fully managed NoSQL document database service. It is designed to address the challenge for managing the schema evolution many developers face in an agile, highly scalable environment. DocumentDB provides a NoSQL solution that helps developers address this by indexing JSON documents added to the database and allows them to be queried with the SQL syntax they are already familiar with. On the Azure DocumentDB team’s blog post introducing the service, they provide a more detailed explanation.

DocumentDB use case – Telenor

Our customer, Telenor, utilized DocumentDB to deliver scale at speed. As a major mobile operator, they are always looking for ways to increase their subscribership. They created a promotion that coupled hardware with services. The challenge was that the solution needed to be deployed quickly, at the start of the campaign, in just 10 weeks. By using DocumenDB, the Telenor team was able to significantly reduce their time to market, and meet their aggressive timeline, with an agile solution. Read more about Telenor.

The partner opportunity

For partners, DocumentDB is part of a bigger play to offer flexible end-to-end data platform offerings in the cloud. Partners that have created service offerings around the Microsoft data platform but have had to provide NoSQL options through tools like MongoDB or Casandra now have a Platform as a Service offing built on Microsoft Azure. For partners that specialize in DevOps, DocumentDB provides a managed NoSQL option to include in their applications.
