As a Microsoft partner, you are expert at helping your customers deploy and utilize new technologies. At times, these technologies may not only be new to your customer, but relatively new to the IT space in general. Serving at the cutting edge of IT consulting, partners have the opportunity to not only help their customers succeed through advanced technology, but to blaze their own trail to growth and success that serves as an example to other partners. This is the crossroads at which partners stand at today when it comes to the Internet of Things.
The Internet of Things, as you may know, is a new network of assets, devices, and data working together. Although the underlying concepts of the network are not new, the potential and applications for it are still in their early stages. For businesses, the Internet of Things can lead to greater business intelligence, process simplification, and overall improvement to how work is done. This may be achieved through equipment sensors that allow technicians to better plan preventative maintenance for manufacturers, or providing an intelligent single-sign-on system for quick access to electronic patient records across tablets, smartphones, thin clients, and more in a medical setting.
Partners deploying an Internet of Things business today are preparing themselves for the IT environment of the future. Earlier this year, McKinsey & Company, a global management consulting firm, identified the Internet of Things as a key tool for addressing critical decisions CEOs must make in the digital age – enabling better decision making. Additionally, Signals and Systems Telecom found wearable technologies are being integrated into the Internet of Things strategies for wireless carriers.
Microsoft is committed to helping partners blaze new opportunities with this fast developing technology segment, to enable businesses and workers to make smarter decisions and actions. I encourage you to visit the Microsoft Internet of Things website, learn more about the partner opportunity for the Internet of Things as well as the Intelligent Systems competency, and watch WPC 2014 breakout sessions about this topic.
