Windows Server 2012: A huge moment in this big launch season

by Peter Han, Vice President, Microsoft U.S. OEM Division

Too often, we only realize that we were part of something “big” in hindsight, but it’s genuinely thrilling when you know you’re being part of something big, now. Such is the case as we—as a company and as the most diverse partner ecosystem in the world—experience the transformative ripples of the year’s wave of technology innovations. With a year of product refreshes upon us, partners have an opportunity to have one of their best years in business, ever.

We’re moving toward the Windows 8 debut later this week with great expectations for what this intuitive and powerful OS will mean to customers, and how OEMs will actualize it via exciting new form factors and applications. But I—and you, according to the many in-person sessions and conversations we’ve held over the last several months—am quite aware of having already been a witness to something momentous. After all, the September 4 launch of Windows Server 2012 was only the advent of a completely transformative server operating system model. And it represents tremendous opportunity for you.

imageWith more than two million U.S. small businesses operating without a server today, your SMB customers are especially primed for Windows Server 2012 discussions. Resellers, VARs, and systems integrators in the channel have a landmark opportunity to offer customers one consistent and familiar platform across private, hosted and public clouds. And multiple, targeted editions of Windows Server 2012 make it possible to engage with your customers at a deeper level and solve their unique business and IT challenges:

  • Windows Server 2012 Datacenter for highly virtualized private cloud environments
  • Windows Server 2012 Standard for non-virtualized or lightly virtualized environments
  • Windows Server 2012 Foundation for small businesses with up to 15 users running on single-processor servers
  • Windows Server 2012 Essentials, launching November 1, for small businesses with up to 25 users running on servers with up to two processors

With all the energy of this busy season, I don’t want you to lose sight of the moment before you, to capitalize on Windows Server 2012. Windows Server 2012 offers a dynamic, cost-effective infrastructure that goes beyond virtualization technology to a complete platform for building a private cloud; it delivers the power of many servers, with the simplicity of one; it opens the door to every app on any cloud with its broad and scalable web and application platform; and it enables the modern work style, with access to data and applications anywhere, on any device.

Take advantage of the partner-ready resources for Windows Server 2012 that are available on the partner portal, and prepare to discuss with customers how this solution can benefit their business productivity and bottom lines. Before you know it, you’ll be experiencing another big event…your best year ever.
