Some details about the re-released Exchange 2010 Service Pack 1 Update Rollup 3 (RU3)

As stated before, we the Exchange Team Blog announced the re-release of Exchange 2010 Service Pack 1 RU3 V2 and you can find the list of fixes included in Update Rollup 3 here.

There are a number of things to point out:

  • You can install this updated version of RU3 on top of the older version if you didn’t uninstall it yet.
  • KB 2009942 Folders take a long time to update when an Exchange Server 2010 user uses Outlook 2003 in online mode
    • In the original version of Exchange 2010 SP1 RU3, we added UDP notification support back to Exchange 2010.  The folder refresh issues that some of you may have seen with the first version should also be resolved now as well.  Keep in mind that you will need to add a registry key “EnablePushNotifications” if you want to enable this.  It is not on by default.  I’m not going to tell you where to put the key, since we really want you to look at the article above for that information.  Also, you may find that setting a static port for UDP on the client side will be helpful in some networks.  Again, please take a look at the KB article above for more details.
  • The Exchange 2010 and BlackBerry Enterprise Server Coexistence TechNet page is also an important place to visit if you are running Blackberry Enterprise Server (BES) with Exchange 2010.  Why?  Because it lists:
    • The recommended updates for BES
    • The updated CDO update that should be installed on the BES servers.
    • The recommended update for Exchange 2010
    • Two Windows fixes.  It is recommended that these be installed on your Windows Servers and that can include Exchange servers as well as BES servers.  One of the fixes has to do with an issue where the server may become unresponsive when the server flushes many pages to a volume.  The other fix is one that fixes memory management issues.
  • KB 2464564  You cannot change your password if the user name that you type in OWA is in UPN format when you enable Exchange Server 2010 SP1 Password Reset Tool
    • Now this may seem like something that is not that big of a deal to some of you, but a number of you have been waiting patiently for this.  This is also included in the fixes listed for Exchange 2010 SP1 RU3.
  • There are a ton of other fixes included in this including crashes, memory leaks and more.  Please check out the Description of Update Rollup 3 for Exchange Server 2010 Service Pack 1 to get all of the details.
