The WPC 2014 award-winners’ perspective: part 2

With over 2,800 Partners entering this year’s WPC Awards, competition was fiercer than ever. So the Partners who triumphed in their chosen categories have every reason to feel seriously proud. But what makes winning an award a really special experience? And how does it create competitive advantage for winning Partners?

On top of the world
For Matt Ward at Softcat, victors in the Microsoft Software Asset Management (SAM) Partner of the Year award and finalists in the Volume Licensing Partner of the Year category, their award is all about respect and recognition. “To gain recognition on the global stage from a vendor as well-known as Microsoft is an honour, and a real testament to the long hours and hard work put in by our SAM team.”
It’s a similar story at Oxford Computer Group (OCG), who made it back-to-back wins in the prestigious Identity and Security (Access) category. Managing Director Neil Coughlan points towards his team’s expertise as instrumental in OCG’s win. “The OCG team has worked very hard for this and I’m delighted that their efforts have been recognised” he says. “The expertise of our IT technicians means we can help untangle organisations’ IT systems and either rebuild or reimagine them for this new world of cloud computing and mobile devices. OCG has come a long, long way in the past 31 years, always at the forefront of IT developments. This award acknowledges that.”
For others, it’s the sheer innovation of their solutions that separates them from the crowd. And that’s especially true in categories that recognise smart technologies, like the Intelligent Systems Partner of the Year award. As Kevin Cunningham, Vice President Enterprise Markets at this year’s winner CGI puts it, “we are delighted to receive this award in recognition of our Intelligent Enterprise solution, which makes intelligent use of sensors to report on asset performance and maintenance in real time.”

Awards mean rewards
While it’s superb to be recognised for your effort and performance, the winners agree: there’s a powerful commercial advantage to winning a WPC Award too.

“Our relationship with Microsoft, one of our biggest and longest-standing partners, continues to go from strength to strength” says Matt Ward at Softcat. “We’re delighted with this award – we can now say we’re officially one of the best in the world at what we do.”

At CGI, winning is all about combining forces to deliver smarter and better customer offers. Or as Kevin Cunningham puts it, “as a Microsoft award winning Partner, CGI can use its integration and domain knowledge in conjunction with Microsoft’s cloud based Intelligent System Service (ISS). This way, we can provide our clients with a real solution to transform their approach to device and asset connectivity, and make a vast number of connected technology applications a reality.”

The mutual benefit angle is just as vital for OCG. In the words of Phil Sorgen, Corporate VP at Microsoft Worldwide Partner Group, “we congratulate OCG on this amazing achievement and its continued dedication to providing innovative solutions that drive results for our mutual customers.”
