System Center 2012 – Operations Manager can monitor network devices, including interfaces, VLANs , HSRP (hot stand by router protocol), firewalls and load balancers.
In this blog we I will do step by step discovery and monitoring for CISCO switch.
Before Start SCOM Console for discovery and monitoring there is some several tests that you Can Use to make Sure your device Is ready to be discovered and monitored.
Now lets start discoving.
Follow the procedure below:
1- start SCOM console and brow to Administration Tab
2- Right dick and select Discovery Wizard
3- Select network discovery and press next
4- type discovery name and select Management or gateway Server that will perform discovery taskthen select the rosource pool for Monitoring then press next
NOTE: You Can have One discovery rule per Management/gateway server
5- select Explicit or Recursive Discoveries to either discover only the devices You specify or discover devices you specify and devices Connected to it
6- for SNMP V1 and V2 devices, you need to specify community string that will be used for discovery and monitoring. you Can create new community Strings and Use It,
7- Specify network devicesyou want to discover and monitor . You may Import list of network devices from text file
8- Network devices added will be discovered Using SNMP V1 and SNN V2 , You may require change SNMP version for specific devices or all devices. This can be easily accomplished by selecting SNMP Version 3 device (or devices by holding Ctrl Key) and click on edit.
9- Next step is to schedule discovery. If you are discovering a lot of devices, you need to schedule the discovery in order not to affect performance during business can also Select to perform discovery manually.
10- Review new discovery settings then press Create
11- Discovery for Network devices willstart in a while and then you can see network devices discovered in Monitoring Tab Under Network Monitoring folder
12- SCOM 2012 Provides several navigations and tasks for Network monitoring As Showing in below Snapshot
