Wer sich für die "Windows Deployment Services" (WDS) interessiert, möchte bestimmt dieses Whitepaper lesen: “Deploying and Managing the Windows Deployment Services Update on Windows Server 2003”.

Was sind die WDS? Relativ einfach: Das Update der "Remote Installation Services" (RIS), also ein PXE Service, der es ermöglicht per Netzwerk Boot Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Server 2003 und Windows Vista auf Systemen zu installieren. Ich habe dazu auch schon mal den einen oder anderen Webcast gemacht, z.B. mit zum Deployment mit den "Vista Bordmitteln", also dem "Windows Automated Installation Kit" (WAIK), das ebenfalls das WDS Update Paket enthielt. Ansonsten ist WDS auch Bestandteil des Windows Server 2003 SP2.
